PITKIN COUNTY, COLO. (April 4th, 2025) – Parking changes are coming to a few Pitkin County managed lots. To improve efficiency, Pitkin County has partnered with a third-party vendor to manage the Buttermilk paid parking system during the non-ski season. Pitkin County is implementing updates to its parking policies to ensure efficient parking management, improved accessibility, and better alignment with community needs. As part of these efforts, paid parking will be reinstated at Buttermilk Ski Area during the non-ski season, beginning April 7, 2025. This change continues the county’s commitment to maintaining consistent parking practices while supporting alternative transportation options.

Buttermilk Parking Rates and Payment

Visitors to Buttermilk Ski Area will be subject to the following daily rates.

  • Standard Vehicles: $6 per day

  • Oversized Vehicles: $40 per day

  • Maximum Stay: Up to six consecutive days

These rates remain consistent with those established during the five years when the City of Aspen managed the Buttermilk parking lot. Payments can be made conveniently via QR codes displayed on signage throughout the lot, allowing users to pay with their smartphones. Read more about buttermilk parking here

Commuter Parking and Alternative Transportation

To encourage the use of public transportation and non-motorized travel, a designated free day-use parking (no overnight parking) area will be available near State Highway 82. This area is intended for individuals using Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) services or accessing local trails.

Parking Enforcement and Regulations

Pitkin County will actively enforce parking regulations daily, including during evening hours, to ensure compliance. Violators may face ticketing, booting, or towing, the following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Overnight parking (only in free parking area)

  • Camping

  • Sleeping in vehicles

Schultz Health and Human Services (HHS) Parking

The Pitkin County Schultz Health and Human Services (HHS) parking lot at 0405 Castle Creek Road Aspen will remain free exclusively for HHS clients, staff, and tenants. The lot will be monitored for unauthorized vehicles in this area and will be subject to enforcement measures for vehicles parked for over 24 hours in the HHS parking lot. Signage will be posted to inform patrons and staff of these new changes.

County-Wide Parking Information

Pitkin County continues to explore parking solutions that balance accessibility, sustainability, and demand across key locations. Parking regulations vary throughout the county, and visitors are encouraged to check posted signage or visit the county’s website for the latest updates.

Third-Party Parking Management

To improve efficiency, Pitkin County has partnered with a third-party vendor to manage the Buttermilk paid parking system during the non-ski season. These changes are only effective from April 7th until Buttermilk opens for skiing.

The County will be working with the Aspen Skiing Company and other stakeholders to develop ski season parking management alternatives for Buttermilk.
