PITKIN COUNTY, CO (April 13, 2025) — Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) experienced a security incident today that led to the temporary closure of the commercial terminal for approximately two and a half hours.
Out of an abundance of caution, all passengers and employees were safely evacuated. Airport officials worked in unified command with the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to investigate the incident, which was determined to be a false positive in a checked bag.
It is important to note that, due to the baggage being isolated in the commercial terminal, general aviation operations continued without interruption during this time.
The terminal successfully reopened at 2:00 p.m. Following the reopening, ASE, PCSO, TSA, and airline partners are diligently working together to rescreen all baggage and passengers to ensure continued safety and minimal disruption to operations.

El Aeropuerto de Aspen/Condado de Pitkin cerró temporalmente debido a un incidente de seguridad
CONDADO DE PITKIN, CO (13 de abril, 2025) — El Aeropuerto de Aspen/Condado de Pitkin (ASE) experimentó un incidente de seguridad el día de hoy que llevó a cerrar temporalmente la terminal comercial durante aproximadamente dos horas y media.
Por preocupación, todos los pasajeros y empleados fueron evacuados de forma segura. Los funcionarios del aeropuerto trabajaron en un comando unificado con la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado (PCSO) y la Administración del Departamento de Seguridad en el Transporte (TSA) para investigar el incidente, que se determinó que era un falso positivo en una maleta facturada.
Es importante destacar que, debido a que el equipaje se aisló en la terminal comercial, las operaciones de aviación general continuaron sin interrupciones durante este tiempo.
La terminal reabrió con éxito a las 2:00 p.m. Tras la reapertura, ASE, PCSO, TSA y los socios aéreo están trabajando diligentemente juntos para volver a revisar todo el equipaje y a los pasajeros para garantizar la seguridad continua y una mínima interrupción en las operaciones.
