Vectra Bank Building Basement is Temporary Location While Courthouse Plaza Remodeled
The remaining offices of the Pitkin County Clerk and Recorder’s office move out of the Courthouse Plaza building on Main Street in Aspen next week while the building is remodeled. The Motor Vehicle Department, which administers vehicle registration, renewals and license plates along with Property Records, Recording, and Marriage and Civil Unions departments will take up shop in the basement of the Vectra Bank building in Aspen at 534 East Hyman Avenue in Aspen beginning Tuesday, April 19th. For security reasons, office hours will match the bank’s hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Monday through Thursday and will be open until 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. This is one of two satellite locations for the Pitkin County Clerk’s office during the 2-year-long Courthouse Plaza Construction. The Elections Department is now located across the street from Vectra in the Ute City Bank building also on the 500 block of Hyman Avenue.
“We’re pleased that all of the functions of the Clerk and Recorder’s office can be located close to each other,” said Pitkin County Clerk, Janice Vos Caudill. “While we understand that our moving out of the Courthouse Plaza for an extended amount of time might be an inconvenience to our customers, we hope they become accustomed to doing business with us in the heart of town,” Vos Caudill said.
The Clerk’s offices in the Courthouse Plaza will be closed beginning Friday, April 15th through Monday, April 18th. They reopen for business in the Vectra building on Tuesday, April 19th.
Later this summer (at a date to be announced) the Courthouse Plaza will be gutted and remodeled and construction of the new Public Safety/Administration building will begin. Construction is expected to continue for 18 to 24 months. All Courthouse Plaza departments and employees, with the exception of the Clerk and Recorder, Motor Vehicle, and Elections, will be relocated to Basalt. Departments making the downvalley move include Business and Information Technology (the county’s IT, GIS, and Business Processes offices), Human Resources, Finance, Open Space and Trails, the County Attorney, and the County Manager’s and Board of County Commissioner’s Administrative team. Downtown Aspen County departments not currently housed in the Courthouse Plaza will remain in their current locations. These departments include: Community Development, located at Aspen City Hall, and the Assessor, Treasurer, and Sheriff located in the Pitkin County Courthouse.
