Effective Monday, March 4th unattended vehicles parked in front of the Aspen/Pitkin County Airport terminal will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Unattended vehicle parking curbside at the terminal in Aspen has been strictly enforced since mid-December in compliance with federally-mandated Transportation Security Administration security measures at all commercial airports.

The grace period for unattended vehicles will end on March 4, 2019.

All unattended vehicles left in front of the airport terminal will be towed at the

owner's expense.

During the parking restriction grace period that began on December 19th vehicles left unattended in front of the terminal have been towed by a private towing company to a remote location on airport property. The airport has covered the cost of the towing and storage up to now.

“We’ve been towing an average of three cars a day since December at the airport’s expense,” said Airport Director, John Kinney. This grace period is not sustainable for the airport. Regrettably, we’re going to have to start passing along the cost of towing and storage to violators,” Kinney said.

Beginning March 4th unattended vehicles will be towed to an off-site storage lot. There will be a $180 hookup fee, $3.80 per mile up to 14 miles towing fee, and a $30 per day storage fee.

Drivers are reminded to communicate with travelers they may be picking up at the airport about this change. The first hour of parking in all airport parking lots is free.
