[ARCHIVED] Sky Mountain Park, Glassier open Thursday

Trails at Sky Mountain Park and Glassier Open Space will reopen for the season on Thursday, but downhill-only Deadline Trail at Sky Mountain will remain closed for maintenance.

Reshaping of Deadline Trail began last fall, but work was suspended when it began snowing. Machinery will be in use to complete this project, which will continue until May 22 or 23. Deadline will be open on the weekend of May 18-19 and close again May 20, when work resumes. Please observe closure signs on Deadline when they are in place.

Sky Mountain Park and Glassier Open Space have been closed to human use since Dec. 1 for the protection of wildlife. Pitkin County Open Space and Trails has consulted with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to make sure Thursday’s openings will not adversely affect elk and other wildlife that might still be on the property. CPW confirmed the openings can occur on schedule.

Included among the Sky Mountain Park trails that will open Thursday are Seven Star Trail, Rim Trail North and Upper North Mesa Equestrian Trail.

Please respect all closures until the trails reopen and refrain from using wet, muddy trails. Precipitation is in the forecast late this week.
