Creating the best opportunities for good mental health in the community is the focus of a strategic planning effort being spearheaded Pitkin County.b.The County is collaborating with the Aspen School District, Aspen Valley Hospital, the City of Aspen, the Aspen Skiing Company and Aspen Community Foundation on the project that will result in a vision and strategic plan around mental wellbeing for all.
“We believe that everyone in our community should be able to find the support they need when life gets challenging,” said Pitkin County Public Health Director Karen Koenemann. “Life gets challenging for most of us at one time or another, and we’re working together to uncover what’s working and what’s not working when it comes to our community’s mental wellbeing,” Koenemann sa
To kick off the effort a survey is being circulated that asks questions about the availability of employee wellness programs, parenting skills training, experiences with school counseling, and access to mental health services, among other things.
“We want to learn how people who live, work or go to school in Pitkin County are accessing mental health services and what their experience has been - positive or negative - so that we can tackle solutions that point us toward a healthier community,” Koenemann said.
The anonymous survey is available online at www.pitkincountyconnect.com. Links to the survey are also being circulated via email, and on social media in the English speaking and Spanish speaking communities. Survey results collected until October 4th, 2019 will inform the plan.
