[ARCHIVED] “Keep Colorado Wild Pass” available during vehicle registration

Purchasers may opt out if not interested

New in 2023, a discounted state parks pass is available to those who renew their annual vehicle registration either online with the Division of Motor Vehicles or in-person through the Pitkin County Clerk & Recorder’s Office

Harvey Gap, located near Silt, is one of the dozens of state parks included in the program.

The “Keep Colorado Wild Pass” costs $29 and offers Coloradans access to the 42 state parks. If purchased separately from vehicle registration, the annual affixed pass runs $80 each.

According to Colorado Parks & Wildlife, the $29 pass fee is included automatically in one’s renewal fee unless the purchaser chooses to opt out. The pass is linked to the specific vehicle that is being registered and is non-transferable; it’s valid for the length of the vehicle registration.

Fees generated from “Keep Colorado Wild Pass” sales will be applied toward maintenance and development of state parks, search and rescue teams and to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. Should revenue exceed goals, then money will be allocated to outdoor education programs and wildlife projects, according to CPW.

For more information, visit the Keep Colorado Wild webpage on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website. Here is the Spanish-language version of the webpage.
