Community Input Vital in Narrowing Concepts
The deadline for the public to rank four different airport terminal concepts is approaching. Community input was collected at an open house on October 22nd and will be combined with input from citizens who choose to comment online through November 20th at www.pitkincountyconnect.com. County Commissioners will consider citizen comment at their regular meeting on December 8th when they are expected to narrow the concepts to two that will be fully scoped in the ongoing environmental assessment (EA) process.
“The community input we collect will influence commissioner's’ decision on which two airport terminal concepts are worthy of further study and design,” said Airport Director, John Kinney.
The four concepts include single story, split level, nested and two story layouts. Complete descriptions of the layouts can been viewed on large graphics currently on display in the airport terminal baggage area. They can also be viewed online at www.pitkincountyconnect.com.
After the concepts are narrowed, two layouts will be further scoped in the EA. The assessment is expected to continue for at least another 18 months. New airport terminal design in earnest will begin after the EA is completed. The design process will include a robust community involvement effort.
