Pitkin County has awarded the construction contract for the Redstone South Bridge Replacement Project to Myers & Sons Construction and will begin construction activities in mid-February 2026. The Redstone South Bridge is scheduled to close in early March 2026 and remain closed through the summer while crews complete a full replacement.
Myers & Sons Construction has delivered billions of dollars in infrastructure projects nationwide. Their team brings extensive experience building bridges in mountain environments, working in winter conditions, meeting tight environmental windows, and reopening critical facilities early to restore public access.
Originally built in 1947, the Redstone South Bridge is the oldest bridge in Pitkin County’s inventory. The replacement will improve safety and reliability and support long-term infrastructure needs in and around Redstone.
During construction, traffic will be detoured onto the Redstone North Bridge on Redstone Boulevard, creating a one-way-in, one-way-out route through town.
To reduce congestion and support visitor access, Pitkin County will direct visitors to the Elk Park parking lot, where they can walk into town via the nearby pedestrian bridge. The County is installing signage and wayfinding to help drivers and pedestrians navigate detours and parking options.
Pitkin County recognizes community concerns about construction timing during Redstone’s peak tourism season. The County is coordinating closely with the contractor and project team to minimize disruption and has implemented an early-completion incentive to help accelerate the bridge’s reopening.
